Remote backup has advantages over traditional backup methods: -
~ Hassel free, automated backup.
Remote backup does not require user intervention.
~ The user does not have to change tapes, label CDs or perform
other manual steps.
~ We will maintain a list of versions of your files.
~ Equipment cost savings.
Perhaps the most important aspect of backing up with PEI Monitoring
is that backups are stored in a different location from the original
data. Traditional backup requires manually taking the backup media
tapes, CD's, DVD's, etc.offsite. Backing up your data with PEI Monitoring erases the potential
of human error, hardware breakdown and theft.
Specialized offsite backup:
PEI Monitoring has installed servers at the ATC
in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Any individual
or company in the world with access to high speed internet can now
store their data, backup their hard drives and/or store their
camera video on our servers.
Instead of buying expensive gear, paying to maintain it and making
sure it actually is working when you need it, we can set your network
up to store on our servers for a monthly fee. (Rates depend on amount
of storage required.) Thieves know that if they steal your DVR,
you have no video to catch them!
Why wait until your computer dies before backing it up?
Offsite backup through FTP (File Transfer Protocol):
PEI Monitoring uses a File Transfer Protocol
(FTP) server over the Internet to move and save your data to our secure servers. This type of system once required
an expensive complicated system that the everyday person couldn't
afford. FTP is traditionally used to move large files online and
can reliably transfer any files of any size.
To access data stored on an FTP server, you can use your backup
program, a special FTP client or just a regular web browser. While
there are two "types" of FTP server, public and private,
you will almost certainly be using a private server, which requires
a password to access your data. Advantages of this method includes:
view the files stored on the FTP any time you wish
using any FTP client
mobile users can back up from anywhere in
the world with an Internet connection
FTP backup can be somewhat
cheaper than a specialized remote backup service.
Be aware that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) might charge
you for the data you send, so you may wish to make incremental backups
over FTP, which only backup what was changed since your last backup.
